Weight Loss- Getting out of your own way!
4 Simple Strategies To Getting Out of Your Own Way…and Start Achieving Weight-Loss Success
by Dinneen Diette
All too often I hear people say they want to lose weight, look better, feel better, and live better.
Their doctor might even have told them for health reasons they need to lose weight.
But days, weeks, months, and even years go by but they’re still at the same weight, or even more. Sound familiar?
So why don’t they just move forward and get on track to a thinner, healthier, and happier person? Seems like the positives outweigh the negatives, don’t you think?
But something is holding them back, and it’s looking them right in the face — themselves. That’s right. They are in their own way.
Now before you say dismiss this, read on as it just might strike a cord. Not only have I experienced this myself, but I meet people on a weekly (if not daily) basis who have at some point or another gotten in their own way to losing weight.
Here are my top strategies for getting out of your own way, and start achieving weight loss success:
1) Decide that you really want this. Not wishing, hoping, or thinking about losing weight — but deciding. Make the decision NOW.
I recently heard someone say. “You can’t make a decision in the future. The only time is right now.” This is so true. Think about it. You can only decide, right here, right now.
We often think too much into the future: I want my body back. I’d like to be able to fit into my clothes. I hope I can eat better. That’s all good, as you need to know what you want. But you need to take it a step further. Decide, really decide, that you’re going to take back your health and your life. Only then can you really get moving forward.
2) Get really clear about what’s stopping you. Is it a limiting belief? I’ll never lose the weight, I just can’t do it.
Or is it fear? If I lose this weight, will I still have the same friends?
Stop waiting for the perfect and start doing — just doing good enough is enough! Stop comparing yourself to others and what they’re doing or the pace they’re doing it. Because if you keep comparing yourself you’ll never be good enough.
Often times we have limiting beliefs to what we can really achieve. You can’t change what you’re not aware of. But you also may not know what it is that’s getting in the way.
3) Take any action. That’s right. The road to success starts with the first step.
Losing weight is NOT all or nothing, and it’s not black or white. And oftentimes the best first step is a small step. Doing too much at once just leads to overwhelm, which leads to dissatisfaction, which eventually leads to not following through and falling off the wagon.
But take that step, any step. Do something today, and every day, that leads you to your goal. And give yourself credit for it. Think of this: action first, confidence follows. Taking that first step and giving yourself credit, is the way to better confidence, which leads to better results — and the weight loss.
4) Get support. All too often we think we need to do things alone. We’re either too proud, stubborn, or afraid to ask for — and get — the right help. Anyone who has lost weight and kept it off has gotten the right support and tools to make it happen.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help. You’ll often find when you do step up and get support, the deciding, getting clear, and taking action all become easier. As the right support will help you do that.
Because support isn’t just about having someone tell you what, and what not to eat. They should also give you the tools that are right for you, tools that you can use at any time and throughout your life, so you can lose the weight AND keep it off for good.
It’s not about perfection, it’s about deciding, getting clear, taking action, and getting the right support. Getting to a healthy weight, getting your body back, and maintaining it, is about taking small steps. But those small steps added up make big results.
So find the right guidance, support and inspiration and get out of your own way to start achieving the weight loss success and live the life you desire — and deserve. You are truly worth it.
Your turn:
Take some time, even just 5-10 minutes, and be quiet and reflective. Are you just thinking about, contemplating, or wishing you could lose weight? Or can you make the decision?
Then get clear as to why you haven’t decided before. Why did you think about, talk about, and maybe even read a book, but never really moved forward or got the results you wanted (or maybe the weight came back on)?
Then do something, anything, to get you moving toward that goal.
And ask for the right support. You’ll not only feel empowered, but you’ll be more confident and in control of your weight — and your life.
